Health Care Coverage
Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP)
Make sure you are registered to receive health care services.
New or returning Alberta residents must register for AHCIP so you do not have to pay for hospital or doctor services.
When registering, you are required to provide proof of:
Identity (government issued photo ID).
Status in Canada (passport, birth certificate, permanent residency, work permit).
Residency in Alberta (letter from employer, long term lease agreement, employment contract).
Show your Alberta Health Care Card and photo identification when you see any health professional.

Extra Health Insurance
The AHCIP does not cover all services.
Prescriptions and secondary health services (dentist, optometrist, physiotherapist, etc.) are not covered by the AHCIP.
Ask the AHCIP if you qualify for these health benefit programs:
Low-income health benefits programs for adults and children.
Seniors benefits and programs.
Alberta Aids to Daily Living benefits, equipment, and supplies.
Additional coverage for extra and unexpected expenses.
Alberta Blue Cross provides services to Albertans on a not-for-profit basis for financial protection and well-being.
Select coverage for just about every type of health benefit, including prescription drugs, dental, vision care, preferred hospital accommodation, emergency medical travel, ambulance, home nursing, and chiropractor, as well as life insurance and short and long term disability coverage for individuals, families, and seniors.
Community Health Centre
There are many health services in Banff.
Free services covered by Alberta Health at the Community Health Centre include:
Immunizations (needles to protect you from diseases).
Travel health services.
Healthy Child Services (immunization and health education for parents).
Healthy Moms Healthy Babies.
Nutrition counselling.
Breast-feeding services.
Diabetes clinics.
Mental health counselling.
